Towing enclosed trailer

Ive searched a bit and am finding very different answers. Figure id ask direct.

I have a 96 T100 SR5 with 188K miles. I am looking to get a 6x8 or 6x10 enclosed trailer to tow my 4 wheeler.

Trailer weight is 1,100 lbs. The atv and tools I would guesstimate to be about 800 lbs. Total around 2,000 lbs.

How well will this truck do? Do you recommend not doing it and why? Does anyone have experience with this size trailer and the T100?

Thanks for any help.

Does your truck have the 3.0 or 3.4?
auto/stick? stock tires or bigger?
i think if you weight guestimate is accurate you should be fine as long as you have a class 3 hitch and your truck is well maintained(especially brakes) - if you get a trailer with electric brakes that would make stopping easier on your truck

I tow with my 3.4 01 4Runner auto all the time.. I do not use over drive and my trailer and truck has trailer brakes. I have hauled many Toyota on a tandem axle trailer, a camper which is pushing the weight limits of my runner but I have trailer brakes, anti-sway, and load leveler attachment. Use a frame mounted hitch and get a drop hitch to the correct height that you need. For a short distance and very few uses, you would be ok with just the trailer as it is but if doing it often, look into trans cooler, electric brakes.... When you get your trailer and electric brakes set up correctly, it makes coming to a stop so nice and is like coming to a stop with no trailer not connected.

In my build threads you see my runner towing boats, campers, and hauling Toyotas. I bought it with 30k miles on it and it is now at 262k miles and never a problem. On a side note, I prefer to buy trucks without hitches on them just so as I know they werent used to haul heavy things. If you are new to towing, really do some studying up on what all is involved and getting familiar with operations of truck and equipment used to make towing much safer.
