T100 Transmission - 1st gear popping out

I have a 1996 T100, 4x4, 3.4L, extended cab, 5 spd manual, 242,000 miles.
Live in Colorado at 5000 feet. Lows have been near 0 in the winter.
I have a transmission problem.
At a stop, I shift into first then let out the clutch and the it pops out of gear quite forcefully. I can get into first on a second or third try. Feels like it is only going in part way then getting kicked out.
All other gears are working fine and normal (2,3,4,5,R) and 4wd is fine.

Guesses - synco
I did find that some people have had an issue with the shift lever bushing and seat. Mine looks fine.

I am using 80w-90 gear oil gl-5. Changed that about 300 miles ago. Heard that a gl-4 might be better.

Thanks for any help.
Looked into getting a Marlin Crawler shift lever bushing and then maybe a rebuilt tranny.

Start with the simple one. Get the marlin shifter seat and bushing, and make sure the fluid is in good condition and at the right level. Ive seen them pop with the fluid level too low or way over filled.

Thanks.

I am going to start small.

I have a new shifter bushing on order.

I am going to try different Gear Oil too. From what I have read trying a GL-4 might be right.

I can hold out for a will. Starting off in second gear isn't so bad.

I will send you a PM 250000_yota.

So I changed the gear oil before x-mas. Had new 80w-90 and now have 75w-90.

No change in first gear. I am not using first gear right now.

I looked at and shined a light in the 80W. It had about 300 miles on it. Noticeable metal in the bottom of the drain pan and small specs in the oil itself.

Looking in to the Marlin Crawler rebuilt transmission.
