T100 gas mileage drop?

I have a 1996 Toyota T100, 3.4L V6, 5spd manual
when i bought the truck, i could get about 17-20 mpg, and lately, i have noticed my mileage really sucks!! i can only get about 200-250 miles to a tank, and to get about 250 the gas light will come on first

what could be causing this? anyone else had this problem?

Winter gas?

Have you cleaned yer MAF sensor and reset the ECU lately?

Keep off the skinny pedal much?

How's that air filter looking? How much of a temperature drop has yer environment encountered? How's the air pressures in yer tires? Added any extra weight in yer truck? Added in any lifts?

Did you ever git the manual hubs and install them?

Bam, here is my truck the way it is right now getting this 10-13 mpg

I am not sure how to clean my MAF, but i have reset the ECU about a month ago when i put the K&N Cone filter on, and once about 2 weeks ago

i have checked all the pressure in the tires, no extra weight, no lift, and no i have never been able to afford the manual hubs as i cant save money cause this things drinkin way to much gas!!

Plugs and wires were changed about 2000 miles ago

Could the truck being bedless cause the gas mileage to drop that badly??

i used to get 16-20mpg, and as of lately, i get about 10-13, NOT GOOD

What all can you replace to get a lil better gas mileage?
as i know O2 sensors, clean MAF & TB, is there anything else i can do?

usually the 02 sensor will knock it down that far. I'd loose the K&N they are known for clogging Mafs. What kind of miles do you have on it? I've got 113,000 on the original 02 and I still pull decent mileage. Though I've heard of them failing once they pass 100k.

I have taken the K&N off, as it was my brothers filter that was with his cold air kit for his old truck, and i am trying to sell it for him now

My T100 has right at 193,000 on it, still runnin good, gotta love these trucks

I'm gonna guess it's from the loss of weight over the driving wheels. Also...yer aero is kinda screwed up with the bed gone. How fast are you driving and what kind of terrain?

City or highway driving? During my highway runs up north...I'm guessing probably close to 450 to 500 miles before the light comes on...and then I have about 4-5 gallons left in the tank with only 2-3 gallons that's usable before the fuel pump starts sucking air.

In city...I will normally see about 350 miles before the light comes on.

Since yer in the mountains...I'm gonna guess you should be able to coast down hill a lot...

and i do alot of highway driving, and what some would call city driving but this small town aint no big city lol, i had been gettin gas at the murphys(walmart), and just changed to a hess station today, as after talkin to all the boys at school, they seem to get crappy gas mileage with the gas from there also, so maybe thats got a small part in this

Could be the winter gas blend. Did you ever hook up yer truck to a diagnostic computer to make sure everything is on the up and up?

I have a 97 with 194K and change. I used to get 20-22 mpg hwy and about 18 city before I got my O2 sensors changed. Now I am getting about 14-15 mpg city, haven't taken it on the highway since I did some much needed repairs. Stock air cleaner set up, pretty much stock exhaust (I dumped it out the side). Tire pressures good, bed intact, etc.
Hey Hartzog, I live in PA and haven't had any luck finding a bed. Where you getting yours from from in PA?

When you changed the O² sensors, what brand did you replace them with? Did you reset the ECU after you installed the sensors? If you reset the ECU, it will take highway driving to git the fuel map properly learned.

Good info. The O2 sensors were replaced (as a surprise) gave it to my mechanic friend to get inspected, and it failed emissions twice, he replaced the 02 sensors for me (much to my dismay). How much highway driving? I am up for a trip.

Yer in fer at least 50-100 miles...just don't be stomping on it. What brand are the O² sensors? If they are Bosch...that will most likely be yer problem. They need to be the Denso brand. The end should look a colander...multiple holes. I believe the Bosch branded sensors will only have a single hole on the bottom.

They are Bosch! Any fix to that besides replacing them? At $170 a piece, I would hate to trash them. Just freakin replaced to. 1 month ago!

Fer example...URD USA...

T-100s:

1998-1995 V6-3.4 4WD Auto; Front = 234-4162, Rear = 234-4162

1998-1995 V6-3.4 2WD Auto; Front = 234-4153, Rear = 234-4161

1998-1995 V6-3.4 4WD Manual; Front = 234-4153, Rear = 234-4162

1998 V6-3.4 2WD; Manual Front = 234-4153, Rear = 234=4161

1997-1995 V6-3.4 2WD; Front = 234-4151, Rear =234-4161
234-4151 = not listed
234-4153 = $76.99
