After motor swap questions
Hey guys, this is my first forum post so please, please be patient with me! I recently swapped a 3.4l with another 3.4l in my 97 T100. I have a motor with 160k on it, with one new head, injectors, manifolds, etc. Am I supposed to just scrap that thing or can I sell it somewhere?

3.4l motor home
Thank you so much for your response. I bought the truck in January, after the previous owner replaced a head after he stripped a sparkplug thread. I figured, my first Yota, so many people rave about the reliability. I was shocked when it had some mechanical failure 3 months later! After I tore it apart, I appeared that something had been pulled in from the intake. It went straight to the cylinder in the center on that side and bounced around a bit. Ended up gouging a tiny piece out of the cylinder wall so my mechanic friend told me we needed to do a swap. I bought the used motor off eBay from a company in Canada (Thank you!) and the shipping and everything went surprisingly well! Now I have the old motor sitting at my buddy's shop, along with all the parts that would come out of one ripped out of a truck. The motor I received was out of a 4runner so I had to swap my oil pan and move around a couple of things, but overall a pretty smooth operation. I hate to see something like this go to waste. I have it on Craigslist for $400 complete, but only getting bites on the head and injectors, so I put them up for $200, and $125 respectively. I figured for $400 total, someone would be willing to rebuild it. Am I way off here?

Yer doing fine. Seems the spark plug thread repair was responsible fer the damage. Might have been something similar to a Heli-coil. Could've been installed incorrectly or the materials didn't hold up.
With the cylinder possibly scored/damaged...most people won't bite on that as there are enough 5vzfe engines out there to work with. Never hurts to try though...unless yer in a big rush to git it out of yer garage. Have you tried yer local TTORA chapter?

It can't be related to the spark plug thread because that was the opposite head. It looked like bits of a washer or something that was banging around in there a little. I'm not familiar with TTORA, but I will look into it. I am in a bit of a rush to remove it from my friend's shop. I have the new head, and the injectors at my house. I'm thinking about pulling the sensors and scrapping the rest. I have no experience in that though. Is it worth it to pull the pistons and such if they are aluminum? The intake and other aluminum parts might ad up to what...$10? What a waste.

At least you'll have the opportunity to check things out so when the time comes to work on yer engine, you'll have that experience to work from. Do a mock valve cover replacement...or even a timing belt replacement. Check out the harness fer the knock sensors...it has a tendency to git brittle over time. Just have fun with the old engine...

Motor Swap is stealing Christmas!!!!PLEASE HELP!!!
Hello everyone and thank you in advance for any help you may have to offer. I bought a 1994 4Runner 2WD with the 3.0 Liter that had thrown a rod completely out of the bottom passenger side of the motor leaving a hole. One of my neighbors had just wrecked his 1990 4WD 4Runner with the 3.0 liter so I purchased the vehicle from him for $500 and did the motor swap then scrapped the vehicle for I had paid for it originally. I used the 1994 wiring harness with the 1990 motor, 1990 distributor, cap, ignition coil, and had to rewire the sensor for the distributor because they were two totally different styles. After getting it all back together I was able to get it started but it is running very rough . I dropped it off at the shop(not a Toyota dealership) and after two weeks this is what they said."It seems like it is not getting fuel at the right times. We have changed out the distributor with no change(still able to swivel the distributor withing the range of freedom allowed in slot for distributor adjustment, from top to bottom without any change good or bad in the running of the truck), he then swapped out the mass air flow which didn't help either. Now he is saying that it could only be either the ECU($734) or the wiring harness. He wants me to order an ECU for a 1990 2wd truck to see if this will fix the problem, and my fear is that I will spend all that money and have it not be the problem. I found some sites that offered Universal ECU's which require the installation of an universal wiring harness to be installed as well. Is there a problem with swapping between these two years,2wd to 4wd? We tried putting the 1990 4wd ECU in and it did not change the running condition at all. I am all ears and would really appreciate if someone could direct me in the right direction.
