$1800.00 to replace time belt, plugs and VC gaskets?

I have a 1997 T100 xtra cab 3.4. Had service done at this dealership since 1995. My service writer has been gone for a few years so don't really have a go to person there. I called to get a price on replacing timing belt, water pump and seals. They had a special belt only $229.00. Was told if I wanted pump and seals replaced with my discount it would be $990.00. Replacing VC gaskets would be $660.00. Drive belts and spark plugs another $275.00.
Long story short. I bought all OEM parts for around $315.00. Labor from a very reliable tech around $500.00. Sorry for the long post. I just feel violated.
Are the VC gaskets that difficult to replace. Dealer mention something about having to remove intake manifold.

Yes, intake manifold needs to be removed to do VC gaskets on the 3.4 and requires a couple of gaskets when re-installing.
The dealer appears to be quoting labor multiple times....i.e. the auxiliary belts need to be removed to do the TB so incrementally it should only be the cost of the new auxiliary belts as the labor to remove and install the belts is in the book time for the TB job.

I'd like to see a breakdown on how they are quoting it. My dealer runs a $399 v6 tbelt special, with an additional hour of labor for the pump, plus parts, so it usually runs around $500-600. Add in a half hour of labor for each seal (two cam and one crank) and that'll add about $180 in labor plus parts.

Th vc gaskets would be 3 hours of labor, plus parts. If it were me recommending the job, I would cut the labor for the cam and crank seals, and knock the valve covers down to an hour and a half or so, because it would be easier to do the cam seals without the valve covers in the way . I see it being a little over a grand, but not $1800.

Thanks to all for info. I had it done at a Midas store near me. I know the owner and trust him. I bought the parts. Around $315.00 for all belts, seals gaskets and spark plugs. He charged me$510.00 for labor to do it all. Had one problem. The new pump had an extra pipe on it. I called Toyota and they said it was a superceded pump number and would have to cap the pipe. Also had new shocks put on. It runs like a top and drives great. Had wheel shake. Alex turned the rotors and seems to be fine now. Really miss my old service writer he passed away a while back. Really enjoy this site.

That is how my old service writer would have done it for me I am sure of it.
