Wiring Plate Light

Hey guys, I swapped gates between trucks. The new one is the tire carrier style gate so no plate lights from factory. I have a little LED light with resistor already in place but I have to wire it up.

I was thinking of wiring it up to the tail light for power, as they're always on. When I checked behind the interior panel, there was 4 wires running to the tail light (drivers side). I presume two are for the running/stop light and two for the signal light.

Pair 1
-green & white/black striped

Pair 2
-green & green striped

I checked the FSM but I'm slightly perplexed by wiring diagrams. I believe what I'm looking at is the right side of the attached image, but neither of those wires run to the what would have been the plate lights on my old non-carrier gate (or do they? they run into the rubber boot that meets the back of the tail light)

Also, there are two other pairs of wires around this group of two pairs that are blocked off with black pieces, one pair of the blocked ones is red/blue and the other I can't recall off the top of my head.

I guess basically, which of those pairs, green/green or green & white/black is the one I'm looking for? Striped wires are power I take it?

Anyways thanks for the help.

What vehicle are we talking about here ?

When I took off my rear bumper on my tacoma the plate lights got deleted. There were 2 plugs each with 2 wires (1 for each light.) I figured out which one was giving me 12 volts with the taillights on. Once I had the colors down I snipped one of the plugs off and wired my hot and ground.
You probably have a similar plug you could easily use with minimal modification.. And I would go that route before going all out with custom wiring..

It's for my '91 4R. Using the old plate light wiring would probably be easier but those wires are beyond where the main gate power hook up meets the connector in the fenderwell so they are sitting with the old gate IIRC.

I can double check though.
