Is it time to call the experts
Hi all... I have tried all I can do with my project truck. Its a 1990 3.0 v6 4x4 has the 3vze motor. I got the truck as a project and it has lived up to that name. I cant get any spark, have tried everything from replacing the igniter and coil checked air gap for the pickups checked voltages and ohms on everywire i could find and nothing is out of spec, yet still nothing. Tried to do a self diagnostic but was unable to pull any codes to speak of. I amway past whatI can do and I have run out of tools to use. Is it time to call the professionals?

Do you have battery voltage @ ignition coil? Have you followed the drill down in the fsm? http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...12onvehicl.pdf

Did you check your plug wires? If they are resistance type wires, even if they pass an ohm check, they could be bad when voltage goes through. Try a non resistance type coil wire for a test first then a non-resistance type wire to #1 cylinder and see if you get spark.

Yeah I have tried all of that even went so far as borrowing a service manual from a mechanic friend and going through the entire flow chart with it. All the wires are new plugs cap rotor coil and igniter. I am completely lost here, there is no logical eason why there i no spark

If you have 12 volt power to the ignitor, you do not have a bad / poor ground in the system and you checked all of the things stated then I have to agree with you there is no logical reason why you do not have spark.

Yep when I checked the igniter I had 12v and have gone over the wiring several times to make sure nothing is broke or rubbed or not connected, I am stumped but thanks for the help.

Do you have a good ground? The coil/ignitor ground through the mounting bracket to the inner fender, if it's corroded the coil will not fire. Just a thought.

Just a thought, did you check the connector plug going to the distriputer? Sometimes when you plug connectors together a wire will move within the connector and really not make full contact. See if the wires within the plug wiggle or move excessively. Check your other plugs in the system as well.

How do I check on the polarity thing, never heard of that before but knowing my luck anything can happen. I live in the heart of the big horn basin the land of sweet grass and big critters. And right now one hell of a blizzard, might wait a few days and let the weather pass.

If you are running a Toyota factory ignitor / coil unit and stock wiring connector you could not reverse the polarity on the coil because the connector only goes on one way. If you are running non-factory wiring then you could have reversed the polarity: ignitor + to coil - and ignitor - to coil + when they should be ignitor + to Coil + and Ignitor - to coil -. Sorry, I do not know the specific wiring or color code for your vehicle.

Mine did this for a while there is a coil in the distributor check it. It was ruining the big coil on the fender. Did it several times. Replaced the distributor for 160$ problem solved.
