swapping green plug alternator for black plug alternator

Is it possible to take my green plug alternator out and install the black plug... I have a green plug that went bad but I have a good black plug and regulator that I would like to swap in.

My truck is an 82 4x2 and I have the alternator and regulator out of a 84 4runner, I also have the section of wire for the alternator and regulator for the 4 runner.

I was thinking the same thing when I accidentally bought a black plug alternator and I needed a green plug. I recall reading something that the voltage regulators were different and not interchangeable, but I can't recall why. I know that it is recommended that you replace the voltage regulator when you replace the alternator so there has to be some corelation between the two. I did some google searching to find info on it, I think I just search "green plug vs black plug 22R alternator" and found some results. I'll try to dig it back up for you when I get a chance
