I have a 98 SR5 automatic. I unscrewed the shift knob, don't ask why just curious I guess. But now it has trouble shifting and when I put it in park I have to jiggle the shifter to take the keys out of the ignition. Whatcha think?

 

Maybe the neutral start switch adjustment is off.

 

How would I fix that?

 

I think you did the same thing I did once. The shifter release button is backwards. When you pull the shifter off you'll see a spring with a piece of plastic on the top of it. The plastic is what pushes against the shift release button when you go to change from park to drive. It can flip around backwards, but the shifter will still all go back together.

Take the shifter back off and make sure the plastic is facing 'forwards'.
