Speaker problems

This has been driving me nuts:

Speaking of blown or damaged speakers I have an annoying problem with my truck.

The stock speakers were ok except for one, the drivers side was very distorted and if you cranked it up it would shut down the entire tsystem making a wierd electrical noise.

Anyway I replaced all my speakers with some fairly good units, but it is still doing it to me. If I crank up the volume to about 22 (the headunit goes to 30) the speakers begin to distort and sound scratchy, then if I got 1 notch higher to 23 the system again makes the noise and shuts off. No one speaker is distorted-they all are as far as I can tell. I just hooked the new ones into the old wiring.

My guess is since I replaced the speakers is either a wiring short or the headunit is damaged. Its a really old pioneer supertuner II:

Or my power antenna which is busted is causing some kinda short...

I dunno, anyone have any ideas, I would hate to buy a new headunit b/c I like this one as it simple and the buttons arent super tiny and I am broke .

I'm no expert, but I had the same problem for a while. I had a few open wires (that were just twisted together) and when i turned em up really high, the system would shut off... Once i went under there and taped em up (electrical tape = lame but works), i havent had any problems..

another possible scenario is that your HU draws more current than the ACC wire can support and it shuts it down.

Ok that makes sense, I asked someone else and they said that it was probably being grounded.

What your also saying is that through the accessory wire it maybe drawing to much power-if this turns out to be the case then whats the remedy?

Incase anyone is wondering I solved it.

Connections were a bit loose, and whoever installed this thing hacked the inside of the dash apart to get it in there. I also noticed it just sat inside the dash snugly so I fabbed up a bracket to hold it in. What a butcher job done by the previous owner..
