What is needed to make my 4 pin harness into a 7 pin.

I currently have a 4 pin wiring harness on my vehicle. I have a 7 pin wiring harness on my trailer. What do I need to do to my vehicle to make into a 7 pin setup so I can use the trailer brakes? More specifically, what wires do I need to run where? I already have a trailer brake controller, but it's not installed. I have 14 and 16 ga. wire and connectors, what else will I need? My uncle, who is journeyman electrician, is coming tomorrow to help me with the project. He's asked me to get a diagram for my 4 pin setup. Any help you could offer so I don't look like a total idiot tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.
