I'm not sure why but ever since I bought my Runner
the Cargo light only works off the switch when turned to on.
When it is set to door no light???? So when I open the hatch no light?
I don't know if it has a plunger switch like the driver and passenger doors
have or what. Need imput from others on how it works. Is there something
in the cargo door that when opened turns the light on. Lost......

this might help. mine just froze up in the winter so the light didnt come on but i did not have the door ajar light on either. maybe just spray some penetrant in there to begin to loosen some stuff up

Hmmm... Seems that we still don't have a total grasp on this issue.

I am in the same boat with everyone. When I bought the vehicle used at a Tyota dealership, I complained about it during a test drive (the door ajar light was on).
When I picked up the vehicle, the door ajar light was off, so I assumed that they fixed the sensor.
It was not until several months later (as the days got shorter), that I noticed that the cargo area light does not go on when I open the liftgate.
My liftgate, (and rear in general) is losing a battle with rust. I am guessing that the sensor must be "rusted"...

If someone has fixed it, please let us know how you did it!
