PIAA Lights turning on after engine off??
I have had 2 dead batteries in 2 days, my new PIAAS are turning on after the engine is off, while I'm gone...what is happening?
I assume that the wiring is incorrect (had it done at CARTOYS)...
any suggestions? I want to buy a new OPTIMA and put it in but the guys said that if it discharges the OPTIMA there will be no warranty as the redtops don't like that at all.
I know I could buy a yellow, but a red should suffice if I can get this wiring issue resolved.
I've been stranded twice in 2 days so any help is very appreciated
thanks a lot
(after turning off the engine, the aftermarket headlights will click on by themselves and drain the battery)

First I would take it back to CarToys and make them fix the probelm and replace your battery.
if they cannot fix the problem, then you should get your installation $$$ back. I will never again use for---

Please clarify... are these auxiliary lights that you installed (and you still have your stock headlights also) or did you replace your stock headlights with these?
The wire they tapped into to feed the relay for your aux lights can't be right. Do you want to be able to use the driving lights regardless of whether the headlights are on or off? Do you want them to automatically shut off when you shut off the truck? Do you want them to be on regardless of whether you have your headlights selected to hi-beams or low-beams?
All these questions must be answered to determine what wire they take the power for the relay from.
I'm trying to think of what wire they might have tapped into to have it working the way they do... How long after you shut your truck off do the aux lights come on?
PS... A yellow top vs a red top won't help you. Assuming those lights are 60W apiece for a total of 120W, then when they're on, they'll be drawing 10A. Your yellow top would likely have approx 55amp-hour reserve. So after sitting for 5.5 hours with the lights on and the truck shut off, you'd still need a boost to start your truck. Only benefit is your yellow top wouldn't be damaged over time from doing this repeatedly.
Get them to fix the problem.

I agree with the others. It sounds obvious car toys screwed up here. You have what is called a serious parasitic draw. If it's not obvious where car toys hacked into the harness, then I'd start pulling fuses to help determine which circuit car toys tapped into.
Either way, I'd say it's car toys problem. Make a deal the next time you go in. I'd suggest giving them one opportunity to get it right. And if they fail then tell them you want them to pay the bill for a correct install at a shop of your choice. Make them agree to this right up front so you don't get wrapped into your rig spending a week down at car toys while their hacks try to solve your problem. I'd also argue for a new battery or refund of the original install. My 2 cents.

A little about optimas, I have the yellow top. It is now in my 3rd rig to have it. ITS IS THE BEST BATTERY EVER. I bought it in 1999. In the spring of 04 I went to alaska for 6 weeks and left my dome light on. As you can imagine the battery was dead, .010 volts.. it took 3 battery chargers before one of them realized it was actually a battery. After 24 hours of charging it started my rig. It hasn't gone dead yet, 2 years later. This is one tough battery.
But for sure have carhacks, i mean cartoys fix it. I have never atually seen decent work come out of there shop.

Thanks a lot for all your help with this PIAA light issue.
You won't believe was it finally was.
Cartoyz checked the install and it turns out that it was the PIAA relay that was shot. I called litewarehouse.com (very good, by the way) and they told me that I could send it back for a replacement.
when I took the relay out, it turns out that it had been installed upside down, and was full of water, I mean full. dripping out of that thing.
there are holes in the bottom of the relay for ventilation, but if the relay is installed upside down, it will fill up with water and kill your battery.
WOW
do I have any grounds to ask cartoys for a refund/assistance for my new battery? probably not I would imagine.

If they installed the relay upside down...sure you do! They installed it wrong, it drained your battery, therefore, THEY should make it right.
