Which Optima to get?

I think there are three, red, yellow and blue? I plan on running an amp and getting a winch. I also have a set of Hella 500s and on wknd surft trips run the stereo and lights with the truck off quite a bit. Thanks

i think i just answered my own question. now, how long can you run a stereo with say a 100 watt amp off your yellow top and then still be able to start your truck?

Depend on the reserve capacity of the yellow top (there are different ones). As an example, a good estimate of how long a 120 Amp-hour reserve battery will last if you have 100W radio + 100W lights going is:

200W/12V= approx 16 Amps

120 Amp-hour/16 Amps = 7.5 hours (This is approximate, because voltage drop will not be linear...)

That, I assume is to get your battery "dead", which will be something like 10 or 10.5 volts, which probably won't start your vehicle.

The best solution is to have a dual battery setup.

The yellow toppers run about $160 at sams club. A dual set up will be costly.

I have the oddyssey PC 1700. And here is what i think--its big and has alot of reserve--so it is a poor mans two battery set-up with a push start just in case (Manual Tranny)
