Sick and tired of my horn on the T100, it sounds pathetic-my camry at least sounded better.

I was looking into aftermarket horns and hella seems decently priced but which one should I get? I cannot figure out how the air horns work,other than wiring them in.

I see hella offer two types:
1. Hella supertone-seems compact enough and would probably be almost a direct fit onto the yota

2. Hella air horn's (which I think might be more fun) like the triple tone kit.

Then there is Fiamm, which seems much cheaper for about 25 bucks I can get this: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...002553/c-10101

I figure installing them to be a fairly easy job but have never done it before so i wanted to ask. Any maker besides hella that you would recommend thats better or easier to install? Thanks for the help

 

heres what i did i took the horns off my sisters 97 jetta there made by hella and there really loud the install was very easy the horns off the jetta have 2 prongs one is a hot a the other is a ground so what i did is went to the the hardware store grabed some female/male connecters that way i didint have to cut the factory horn plug

 

Sounds interesting, what it sound like-can you record a sound or direct me to somewhere I can find this?

Probably way cheaper to buy horns through a yard this way and see how it goes.

Course at 25 bucks the airhorns sounds pretty cool too..

don't get the supertones. they sound like they are meant for a european compact car. i think i have a soundclip if you need to hear for yourself

 

I tend to like loud, sorta booming horns.. The meep-meep horn in the T100 sounds horrible..

 

I got a pair of the long Hella air horns (12-13") from O'Reillys. They are almost too loud, people cuss, babies cry, cats hiss. If you want to hear them before you install them, just hook up the hoses and touch the wires to a battery. You might want to put in ear plugs first though.

just go the junk yard and grab a horn set off of a ford truck ('89+). loud and not car-ish at all. i got a set off an explorer and they are ALOT better then the stock horn.

 

Don't get the Fiamm horns. They came on my truck and they sound really sissy and they're not very good quality. In fact, they quit working all together the last time I went wheeling. I need to replace they with something better...

 

I have a cheap Fiamm horn. It was a really high pitched sound and not very strong....

Until i pump 60 PSI through them. The normal electric motor that comes with them only puts out about 8 PSI. I hooked up a 24v solenoid (i got it for free so i had to make it work) and a regulator with my on board air system, now i push 60 psi through those little horns. it makes people JUMP.

 

Hummm.... that's interesting. I'll have to hook up a gauge to my little Hella pump and see what it puts out. So does the tone get deeper the more pressure you push though them?

 

nah, unfortunately it's still high pitched, but man it is ear piercing

 

I settled on wolo maxi horns from pepboys, at 25 bucks I couldnt pass it up.

Some notes:

The T100 has very slim horns, the wolos are about 1.5" at the highest in width. This made for some mounting problems since one side has a tranny cooler on it, otherside went on fine. Although I did have to modify the housing to accept the stock yota connections which were large plastic pieces that housed the actual connection (didnt wanna take them off the itty bitty wire gave me a bad feeling about trying to remove them). I had to use a dremel and cut off a section of the plastic around the conenctions on the horns.

I sat there trying to get it done but had to go meet someone, put it together but I didnt like it the way I did the side with the trans cooler. Came back home and went to work again, tried to mount it better and finally cut one of the mounting brackets down 1/2" to make it work. The side with the trans cooler not has the horn sitting on top of the grill, literally. I didnt wanna trim the inside of the grill and at least the connections are away from the radiator now.

They are much deeper, the stocks might have been louder but they sounded like a road runner meep meep..

 

right on no more crappy stock horns .... i also changed the horns on my sisters avalon took me all of 20 mins

 

Well if not for the trans cooler (it never gets that hot but ya never know) it would have been 20 mins, took me about an hour after trying not to cut the bracket. In the process the nice little grounding clip brok off the grounding wire, so I stripper the wire and wrapped it on the bolt.

I just have no lucky lately..
