i would run a ground right to the battery and see if that helps

 

make sure your relay is wired correctly, theres a guide out there that has the pins switched and i blew a fuse because of it.

 

That would be my next suspect - relay wired wrong...

 

I took a closer look at the bulbs, and something doesn't seem right. The positive wire that is connected directly to the bulb seems to be touching the out side of the bulb casing. I marked on another bulb where I'm talking about. It makes sense to me that the positive wire shouldn't touch any part of the bulb, and jsut the single contact lead coming from the glass/filiment itself.

 

use a digital volt meter to measure the resistance between the bulb hot wire and the shell to confirm its a defective bulb.

Or take the one bulb out and try it with just the OTHER bulb in and see if that other bulb works in both lights first. Then get some quality brand name bulbs..

 

Still stuck....

So I tried new bulbs, didn't work.

I did some testing with the voltmeter again and I was receiving a neg signal through one of the positive lines. It wasn't touching anything, just coming straight from the relay. Replaced the relay with a brand new one. Still messing up. I bypassed the switch so it's not that.

So tofer sent me a link on AIM with the wiring diagram that made sense to me, but I lost it. I'm hoping he can track it down again. Or if someone else has one that is good, that would be great too.

EDIT: This my relay. Don't worry, the exposed wires are temporary. And everything is just wrapped up and sitting under the hood. I was so frustrated today that I just pulled everything up and called it a day.

Yellow: Main Positive coming from batt.
Green: Positive coming from switch.
Black: Ground coming from body/going to lights.
Red: Positive going to each light.

 

this is how ive always wired my lights works fine

 

Ok, so mine looks like it is wired wrong:

Red: 87 & 86
Yellow: 30
Green: 85
Black: 87

According to that Hella diagram, I should have both red on the 87s, and the Black on the 85, right?

So it should be:
Red: 87 & 87
Yellow: 30
Green: 85
Black: 85

 

yes ground should be 85 and the lights should be 87 do you also have a 87a on your relay that would be the hot acc wire for the switch

 

Everything works. KC Mucked up the relay. Got it wired right and they work like a charm.

Ah thanks. After taking them for a 1 hour test drive, I'm already thinking about what other lights I want and where I can mount them. I won't mention the backup floods I am in the process of installing. I am going to double/triple check the wiring on that relay too, seeing as how they are from KC too.
