Instrument cluster fried?

I took my cluster out today to replace some bulbs with LED ones, plugged everything in to test the bulbs and the circuit board started to smoke. Anyone know why? It started at the oil pressure and water temp light and worked its way to the bulb right in the center.

I did this EXACT same thing over the weekend in my MR2.

My mistake was touching the aluminum bulb ring to the cluster while I had the lights on.

The only way I can fix mine is to find a used circuit board from someone. I would guess that you will have to do the same.

Think I could have touched something on the steering column that would have caused this?

I already ordered a new/used cluster
