Exclamation I need help with a 30A Relay

I just completed the rear-window-switch-in-cargo-area mod. I also want to add a switch to turn on the reverse lights for lighting in the dark while camping. I have a 30amp 12v relay.

30
85/86
87

I (splice) connected the constant hot tailgate key wire to the 30 and the reverse light to the 87. (At this point, I only know that my reverse wire is the properly connected one.) I then took a spare battery and some wire. I touched the + to 85 and the - to 86 and then vice versa. Either way, I could here and feel the relay working. Very strongly by the way. My main problem, though, it that the reverse lights WONT come on. That's why I'm now asking for help. Thank you in advanced!

but the circuit closes in the relay, its obvious. wont it do the same thing if its grounded sumwhere to the truck. and this switch is goin on the rear panel in the cargo area new where the speaker holes are. where would b my best closest ground point? i tried the jack holder mount bolt, but that didnt work either. what would be your suggestion?

Should I make my connections differenly? The relay closes when I connect the 86 and 85 to another car battery.
