hid lighting

ok i want to do some new offroad lights so after doing some research im thinking maybe metal halide hid which are sadly they are not ment for 12v auto use but they run 110v and they are used for lighting athetic feilds and stuff like that
the bulbs are cheaper and all around better imo they might look wierd on my truck but im undecided on that right now
i want to get a inverter that will handle the the amp that will be drawn through the inverter, ithink i could modify a existing houseing thats already on the truck to accept a mh bulb but after looking at other high power lights is that the reflector isnt chrome its just sheet metal so not sure if i put the hid in there if the heat would mess up the chrome or not the bulbs have a uz filter on them so not worried about the uv exposrue to the chrome (do you think the lights will get hot enough to worry about the chrome?) what kind of ballast do you use on lights like that?
thanks for the help

Get ready for unnecessary can of worms, or stick with 12 volt lights.
