ECU waterproofing...

Hello,

Short of relocating the ECU in my '86 4rnr, I need to do something about the moisture factor. The other day I was stranded temporarily because the heavy rains and deep rut puddles intruded through some portion of the passenger's side body and dampened the wiring harnesses to the ECU and the OCR switch. I'm considering di-electric grease, but I've read conflicting things about using it with such sensitive electronics. Not to mention the crap is fairly expensive for the amount you get. So, I'd like to hear from anyone with the experience and knowledge of what to use in this application. Is the di-electric the stuff or something like the grey stuff I have for electrical wiring (it's water-proofing, and anti-ox, and conductive....I just forget what it's called).

Also, which ever agent is used, how should it be applied best? Inside the connectors and on the terminals and/OR on the connectors after they've been attached at the ECU terminals?

never done it, but id probably use a waterproof casing. like, run the wires in and seal them with a silicone gasket or something. thats all i can think of, besides wrapping the ecu in a plastic bag. it would be waterproof if you did it right, but then youd have the extremely high chance of frying the ecu due to static electricity.. hmmmm... great question.. should make a very informative thread
