I just picked up a axle for a 3rd gen 4runner with an e-locker. I also got the switch and harness but for some reason the only ecu under the driver side dash was a green one. I'm pretty sure that's not the "locker ecu" that I need. I've found a few 33070 ecu's in the local area but it appears these are equipped on non-locker 4runners. Is this the same ecu that I need? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a P/N? 89533-35070 is the one that I used. I haven't heard of a green one, I have only heard of either black or orange colored locker ECU's

That part number is the one I need. The green box I got has a different part number. I think its the ECU that controls the 4wd system. Do you know of anyone using an ECU with that P/N 89533-35070, from a non-locker vehicle? What about years? I found one nearby off a 96 4Runner.

why not just install it and do your own wiring, its simple cheap and you can lock up in 2wd and drive at any speed

+1 on doing your own wiring. Wire, switches, a couple relays and you're good to go!

Can you still use the oem switch and dash light if you do your own wiring? The schematics i have seen call for an aftermarket switch and engaged light.

there are two boxes. one for your 4wd and one for your locker. Just install it. Youre going to need to find wire diagrams (something I have yet to complete) and hook them up yourself, but shouldnt take too long.

I have a 98 and bought a locker from a 00'. The wiring colors are different, so i think that the locker came from a taco considering the grey wire mod is for tacos and red/blue is for 4runners, and my ecu has no red/blue.

Yeah... I'd rather go with the ecu approach. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of an ecu with that part number coming from a non-locker vehicle. I called the salvage yard and the pn matches but they claimed that the vehicle was not equipped with a locker.

Here's the deal, the ECU is nice if you have a tacoma/4runner with the wires already in the cab for the locker. If not, make you're own wiring. What the wire diagrams DON'T tell you, is that the locker actuator works on 5.5v, kicked down from 20 amps via the locker ECU. Note this fact if you are wiring it yourself, it is NOT present on any toyota wiring diagram. I see lockers fried all the time that people try to wire themselves. Just a tip

I'm already prewired, same as Phong's writeup. Thanks for the diagrams. If I can get the ECU all I would need is to run wiring from the locker harness to the ecu. I have the switch installed and if I plug up that green box I get the RR locked light in the dash. I'm sure if that ECU has the same part number as the locker ECU it has to work. There shouldn't be two different parts with the same p/n on a same generation vehicle. Well that's what I'm figuring for now.
