Driving lights question

Headlights on my runner seem to be living a life of their own.
When I picked up the truck a few months ago, the headlights
would go on as soon as I put transmission in gear with engine running.
Then, they stopped turning on by themselves, which was fine as I could
turn them on or off manually myself. Now, last week during an off road trip
all of a sudden driving lights start working again!
My question is - does anyone know how to make them not turn on by themselves? And what could cause them to not work for a few months and then suddenly to start working again?
Thank you for your help!

If you went trough some water on your off-road trip that could have possibly had something to do with them coming back on... otherwise I don't know that sounds pretty weird

Yes, I did go through a couple puddles...well more like small streams.
I like to be able to turn lights off whenver I want to though.
Any idea where tolook for relay that turns them on?

When I had the same situation, my headlight also would as soon as I put Mazda transmission in gear with engine running... Then, while I was having a car wash and my nephew is playing with by putting his feet on the gas pedal, the headlight suddenly came on... A friend of mine told me that the water could have triggered the electrical flow in my car... So, I ask a wiring technician check it out... He told me that I have some faulty wiring and that there is a wrong wire ground that could have triggered the headlight to turn on... Anyway, after some wiring adjustment it fix immediately... Don't know though the location of the relay... Good luck!!!!
