Do I need a manual ECU for my swap?

I'm swapping in a 5 speed manual tranny into my 4runner. Do I need to buy an ECU from a manual truck?

From what i understand the auto trans (for a second gen 4r) was run by a seperate trans ECU. meaning if you take the auto out you can unplug the auto trans ECU and the truck ECU shouldnt know that it ever had an auto trans.

(least thats MY best info)

I've heard that you can keep the auto ecu and everthing will be fine. Think you can connect the wires that plug in at the tranny and run them to a switch on the pedal cluster. Here's a link I used:
