Does the speedometer read correctly then the light comes on? If so it may be the vehicle speed sensor.

Found a good write up that seemed to help me out and will be working on my code DTC:42 later. If you have to remove the sensor just be careful because there are several small components that are involved and could be easily lost or damaged. The sensor I pulled is on the passenger side right behind the transmission. VSS1 (I believe) 12mm socket will remove the whole sensor from the mount and you can then remove the three small screws that hold the whole piece together. I pulled mine and threw some degreaser on it, as it was pretty gunked up and cleaned the seal next to the magnet. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-block-252544/

OK...before you take anything apart.....did you recently change tires size or gears? Lets begin there.

the question was already asked, is your speedometer still working?
If it is then your vss in the transfer case is functioning properly.
The problem maybe wiring between the speedometer and the ecu, it may be the vss #2 which is the circuit board in the speedometer or it could be a problem with the cruise control computer or wiring to it as it to receives a feed from vss#2 also.
If your truck has abs then your vss signals may come from the wheel sensors and the above trouble shooting may not apply.
