clicky starter? 82 yota

ive got a 82 yota, pulled out of my uncles junk yard/woods, brought it home threw a battery in it, started on up. just like a yota. any way the head gasket blew and i just got finished putting one on. i had a problem with the starter clicking when starting before the gasket blew but it would only click once or twice, now it does nothing but click. (once it starts to turn it will turn fine) is this a starter issue or a solenoid issue. i dident have any one to turn the key so i dont know exactly where the the click is comming from. also on all the vaccume lines i cut them all out (and plugged the holes) and then realized one advanced the timing. can i just run a tube to the intake to advance the timing and plug off the retarding line?

You don't have to look at that page. Take your starter off the truck. Use jumper cables and put the (+) on the battery to the pin that the nut screws onto and then hook the(-) side of the battery to the housing. Jumper from the ignition switch wire to the (+) pin and the starter should fire up if it's going to. Sounds to me like you have bad contacts and need to change them out, it's cheap and easy.
