A/C turning on when car starts

I have an annoying problem. My A/C turns on automatically when i start my car and i have to push the off button multiple times, sometimes really hard, to turn it off. But when i'm driving or when the car is on for 30min or more the control panel works fine. Could this be wiring problem or machanical where i need to replace the entire thing?

it is digital and no its not on auto. the problem is that it comes on automatically when i start the car even when its off before i turn off the car, or sometimes while the car is running it just comes on by itself.

I would think it's the climate control head, since you said everything works normally after a while. There is no mechanical linkage or connection to the heater/ac units from the controls. Everything is moved by electric motors. The head is just a keyboard. The A/C Heater amplifier just runs the blower speeds?? Probably an expensive guess, any friends let you try theirs?

Is your airflow direction selector set to blow air at the windshield? Mine automatically cycles the A/C compressor on/off when any windshield defrost flow direction is selected (either just windshield, or windshield and feet). The reason it does it is to knock some of the moisture out of the air before blasting it at the windshield (moist air on cold glass will cause it to frost.)

For your digital system, it might be based on either the interior or exterior temperature, or it might do it automatically for a set period of time after you start the truck.

As a test, see if it does it if you move the airflow direction down to just towards feet.

the thing is though, I'm having trouble changing the setting too. I have to press the buttons repeadedly, sometimes really hard, and then it changes but as soon as i let the button go, it goes right back to whatever the setting it was.
