91 4 runner taillight questions

Hi everyone, I've looked for threads that would help me with my problem. My 91 runner had a converter box on it (mounted on the hitch) when i bought it. When i hooked up my trailer it blows a fuse if i turn the lights on and use the blinker.
I bought a new converter box because one of the wires had some ware on it next to the box. I dropped the taillights to see what had been done previously. On my inspection and testing with the lights on i have power at the blinker, brake and taillights all at the same time. On both side of the rig. I can shut the lights off and try a blinker and it works or the brake and it works. They had tied into the respective wires at the plug on the right side and the ran a wire from the left side for the blinker .

Is there suppose to be power to all three wires when the lights are on? Also i noticed some threads mentioning a stock converter box in the left hand rear side does my rig have one?
I'm lost can anyone help.

How are you checking you have voltage at all three bulbs at the same time??

If voltage is at all three bulbs they would be all lite at the same time..

If your 4Runner had the towing package from new it would have the converter box if the hitch and wiring was installed later most likely it does not.

Then you really have no idea what might have been removed.

If the fuse does not blow till you plug in the trailer I would be looking at all the lights and wiring on the trailer.

Hope this gets you started.
