Not shure if anyone came up with anything. I played with the bulb resetting depth helped alot. Still some glare. Im thinking of putting fj rounds in to get a modern light.

Try relaying the 9004 bulbs and sending full battery power to the bulbs. There is info all over here on how (SEARCH) and Daniel Stern's site also has diagrams to show how to do it. The thing is to use the stock wires to power the relays and then have a heavier gauge wire run power from the battery to the bulbs. I bought a 92 pickup for the motor and it has the same interior (dash, etc.) as my 94 4Runner but has the 5" x 7" headlights. I want to convert the 4Runner to pickup's grill and headlights. When I do and if I can, I will post a how to thread.

Also, Mr. Stern can make recommendations on bulbs and sell you quality ones, not the blue tinted garbage that's for sale everywhere that says they are "brighter" but are really not.

Funny this. Just got in from my latest attempt at making the hid work in the 4runner lense......in a word trash. The more i eliminate glare by limiting stroke and position the worse the hi/lo gets. If you dont limit the stroke but reset depth. You get an ok low beam minor glare but hi misses down road....this sucks. I dont have hardly any voltage drop so looks like either im going back to hologen and living with the fact at least im not blinding myself in the dust or a retrofit to square or round h4s.

You need to change the fluted glass lens to a clear lens. The glass is designed to work with the 9004 bulb. I have seen threads on here where guys do the HID projector retrofit in the stock housings but make a cover out of clear plastic, I believe. Wait, are you using projectors or the HID bulbs themselves? I don't know enough about those. I have heard that using the HID bulbs in our stock housings, the light output is absolutely horrible.

Its is. I could get one usable beam but i lose hi or low depending were i set it. Sad thing is ive never been flashed. But when i head out to Johnson Valley the glare blinds me from the dust. Ive looked at retrofits. Personaly i think the cutoff line is to sharp for offroad use. Only other thought is to go to 3 k bulbs and see if it cuts through more.

While removing the hid and putting the hologens back in i noticed that the tops of the bulbs are coated to prevent light from going forward. With that in mind this is the last test session for hids in my pos housings. Might be a few days for results as im working nights this week.

Heres my getto casper shield adjustable 9004 hi/lo hid bulb.

I'll tell you what I did. I got 4 PAR46 housings and put them on my brush guard. I added 2 IPC H4 coversion 5006 high/low beams and 2 50 watt spot lights. Making the old skool 4 headlight system.
I set up a few harnesses and relays so I have a choice of factory or H4 low beams and always spots on with highs. Our state law only allowes 4 lights on at one time. When I my truch all back together, I will get some pictures up...

Would apreciate a pic. Similer to what i had before.
The glare is part of the design of this headlight. Just when the hid that is so much brighter it becomes a pain. Giving up. Going to decent holgens and converting my spots to hid
