89 LN65 Electrical Issues - Loss of Power
#1
G'Day Guys,
New to the forum here , I have a big issue with my electrics on the lux, Its an 87 pick-up 2.4 diesel with a few mods installed ( BTW i am in Oz and unfortunately no one out here seems to be interested or can help with the issue)
Firstly seeing the car is now disabled i cannot get it to a repair shop as the nearest one is about 50 miles away.
Issue: i washed the engine, drove it approx 20 miles stopped for fuel, Once i went to restart the Lux it cranked as soon as i turned teh ignition switch to accessories, hmmm , I turned it off and retried, Nothing, after 2 or 3 attempts of turning the ignition key ( with nothig happening as in cranking etc) smoke appeared from under hood.
Investigation, the 60 amp fusable link had blown, i also found wires behind the air intake box on the LHS front also had shorted out,
Making temp repairs to the fusable link and fixing the shorted out wires, I retried the ignition, Vehicle started, I let it idle for several minutes before shutting down. Problem i thought had been fixed.
Now after putting everything back together, i then went to restart the car and nothing,
1.Checked voltages, battery etc, 12.95 v
2. checked all plugs, fuse links , fuses etc All good,
Findings, I have power and continuity thru the main 80 amp fusable link, This powers a relay/contactor in the main engine fuse box and also supplies power to , i beleive , the starter relay on the inner left hand side fender. thats all i have.
I have no power back thru to the 60 amp fusable link, no power to the ignition switch etc, consequently having no power to the ignition switch i dont have any power to the glow plug or glow timer circuits, no dash light and of course no cranking circuit,
I have dismantled all relays , cleaned contacts, removed and cleaned plugs, doubled check where i can, removed and check engine fuse box and wires, traced hard active wires where possible,
Any assistance, ideas etc would be greatly appreciated . Thank you
Just on a note I am approx 14-16 hrs ahead of your time there so there may be a time frame responding to answer from any questions forwarded thru
I can post pics of the rig shortly ( suffer electrical issues with camera due to uncharged batteries;-)
I am at the point of exhausting my basic knowledge of fault finding etc.
