just double checking..

I hope the replacement works better... mine has been easy out of the box

I am going to have mine trip the HI fan, and the AC trip the Low.

Kinda glad I got the C version then, since my max temp is 110C or 230F

The update is that after contacting them and explaining in detail the situation they are sending me a replacement!!!! Woohoo!
I did, as a precaution, wire in a pair of diodes to allow me to override it if needed.
FYI: it is also nice to have as a backup BECAUSE if your low fan can't overcome the temp rise the fan controller will still shut off your fan @ max temp (194F is as high as mine will go). And if mine exceeds that I need MORE cooling not less.
Glad to hear they're sending you a replacement... I had the feeling you had a faulty one... digital controls are great but it does'nt take much to mess them up lol...

Just throwing it out there but cheap Chinese electronics are usually susceptible to radio frequency interference. This usually causes sporadic behavior so I don't think that's what happened here, but it's something to think about, especially in an application this critical. I'm running MSD Super Conductor plug wires so I'd probably use a ferrite magnet on the thermistor circuit and wrap the unit in foil and ground it for that reason.

Worshipmentor - if you get a good replacement and it ends up working right let us know...I don't plan on running an electric fan but I might get one to use as an idiot light/sounder.

How are you guys mounting the thermistor?

I "mounted" mine but pushing it in between my top radiator tank lip and the end of the raditor hose where it slips over the upper inlet. (after reading that I think I'll post a pic, it confused me!)

It was a snug fit and it stays securely monitoring the temp not far from the thermostat.

Angry

after waiting 2 weeks for the replacement to arrive via a slow-boat-from-China...........THIS P.O.J. does the exact same thing.......
It appears to me, in my semi limited elctronics education, that there is apparently a setting in this these that is incorrect. No matter what the "MAX HIGH" temp setting is on (tried 170, 175, 180, 185, 190, 194) when the temp reading reaches 185 the display goes to -57 for a second then to HHH.....exactly like the other one. Being that I now have 2 of these (and have nothing to lose) I may open one up and see if there is a pot that I can adjust to affect that setting. Trial and error for sure but I dont know what else to do except maybe plead with the seller to send me one in C instead of F....

UPDATE........ NO ADJUSTMENTS INSIDE.......must be an incorrect value on a resister or chip problem.
Gonna contact seller and ask for C version.......I REALLY WANTED THIS TO WORK!

Well, the seller said their "engineer" checked out the new unit they sent me and it worked ok so I must be the problem! They offered a full refund if I send them both back.
SOOOO...........
I am boxing them up AFTER my new one arrives (in C instead of F) from another Chinese seller FOR $15.99 including FREE SHIPPING!!!!!!!
The saga continues..............

I have also bought a Celcius scale one off another Chinese eBayer for $15.99 shipped (should be here late next week) so I will hopefully solve the issue with it. I will post an update when it gets here.
I'm still going to find a pressure switch to screw into my A/C drier so I can have a high head pressure cut on. I plan to run it on the LOW fan setting constantly while the A/C is on BUT it would help cool it down in slow traffic or at stop lights.
Sorry, a bit off topic!

As amazing as this is the Celcius version works!!!!!!!
Which further backs up my initial belief that this issue is a programming problem when they set one up as Farenhiet (maybe the Chinese characters dont translate well
So my LONG story short? dont take the chance, get the Celcius version (got mine on eBay shipped for $15.99) and enjoy.
BTW I shipped the other two back to China for a refund.......we'll see!

Got mine in the other day, and I'm testing it on some lights that draw less than 5A with a power supply set at 12.8V. Appears to be functioning as advertised. Now I just need to figure out where to mount the thing in my 2nd gen. Any suggestions?

Note: was thinking of the glove box and adding an LED to the cluster for a status "ON" indicator. Any yes-no's would be appreciated.

Just ordered one of these.

Wanted to order it from within the US so the other one was out of the question. I plan on using it to illuminate a green LED when temps are good and trigger a piezo sounder & red LED when too hot. I'll start a thread and link to it once I get started.
