19914runner tailgate with tire mount on 1995 4runner - ligthing.

I copied and pasted this from my other thread but i think this is the right place to post

So i put on a new to me tailgate(from a 1991 4runner). I picked up the tailgate with the harness being cut at the bottom where it goes into the rest of the plugs inside the tailgate.

During installation I decided that i didnt want to swap out the guts so i cut the harness on my 4runner (1995) that feeds into the tailgate.

From the harness bundle on my
1995 4runner 1995 4runner
there are 5 green cables 2 of those green ones have the red little markings on it not solid lines one wire is thick other is thinner.

the 1991 tailgate harness it only has one green cable with red markings on it not solid line.

I decided they all look the same so they might go together and work lol ..... not. After hooking everything up, everything worked fine. The window goes up and down.

Once I finished, It was dark outside and I decided to go on a drive and realized my dash lights and rear lights werent working. Actually all instrument lights are not working only stereo and clock.

Decided to put the tailgate window down and boom lights turn on. Let off the
window switch window switch
, lights go off. Put the window back up and lights are on again hahaha. So I'm a little lost. I believe the issue is this tailgate (1991) doesnt have license plate light or bracket. I didn't get it with the spare tire mount that goes on the 91. I need to figure out where i can wire my lights so my lights work when i turn them on. Instead of holding the rear tailgate button for them to turn on.

My break lights still work so does reverse and signals. Any help is appreciated.
would love to get this figured out by tonight. Will be having pics when i take harness apart.

Rest of cables all had matching wires. (1995)
I removed the extra green woth re markings amd lights dont come on when i go up on the tailgate.

Three methods to figure this out..
Wiring diagram in the FSM.
Multi meter.
Battery.

With mm set to continuity or ohms, walk through each combination to find which wire's are pairs.

Better method is a battery, same thing walk the wire combinations bonus here is you'll know what hay the wires go to.

You are missing a grind I expect and the window relay is providing it when the switch is active..

thanks alot for the info!

I don't have a multimeter so i will attempt it with a battery. What kind of battery should be used for that method?

Question. Could i just "ground it" with a bolt??
or could i run a cable from headlight fuse to taillight fuse??
