1990 high beam indicator

A while back I did the led conversation on my truck, but I didn't get the conversation kit instead I made my own. The high beam indicator doesn't work and I've read about how others use a resistor to get the indicator to work I tried this with 5, 15, 220 ohm resistors as well as a old light bulb from a reverse light on the drivers side headlight. But the indicator still doesn't work (I have confirmed the bulb is good) my question is does the resistor need to be on both sides to get the indicator to work or can to just be on one side?

The upper diagram is how the light is wired normally on each side and the lower diagram is how I tried to hook up the resistor
