high beams don't work?

on my 894runner the high beams don't work if you flip the lever forward but they work if you pull it back- to flash them.The dash indicator light comes on but no brights.Is it the switch?Seems strange that it would turn on the indicator but not the lights themselves. Oh and my back window only works when the headlights are off.The electical system is haunted on this truck.Any ideas?

Actually, it could be the switch (in the stalk). According to what I read somewhere on 4crawlers site, the high beam indicator gets fed from the low beam circuit, not the high beams.

And as noted, the "high beam" indicator is more of a "low beams not on" light:
