Need help with an alarm that came with truck
My 98 4runner came with a Audiovox Pursit Pro alarm that seems to be old. I recieved no paperwork on it when I bought the truck and one remote runs the battery down within a month. Also the unit has two switches down by the drivers left foot which I can't figure out what they do. No labels
I'm at the point of calling it quites and buying a new one for the remotes alone are $70ea and it's very irritating only to have one to disarm the alarm.
Is anyone familar with the Prusit Pro, and is it worth keeping (is it a good alarm)?
There doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there on it except for the owner's manual which I have downloaded.
Thanks

Do yourself a favor and get a new system. I would reccomend a product by DEI as they will most certainly still be around if you ever have a problem. The pursuit is a very inexpensive alarm with more than its share of problems. I also think that if anyone is trying to charge you $70 for a new remore they are trying to rip you off!

Which Pro is it? There are a couple of them...
You may want to check the Audiovox site and see if the manual's online.

Now I need to research what to get.
What features would be a must to have and what are a waste of money on an alarm system? I live in a safe area but you never know and we travel.

Hard to beat for $170.
One of the discussions that you'll find here on YT talks about how similar the systems are from the various MFGs. That's pretty much 'cause they're ALL built by the same people - DEI.
The big thing I point out to people is that an alarm system is only a deterrent. If someone wants your vehicle, they'll get it. Towing a car with the alarm blaring is common in urban areas, thieves with a flatbed are common anywhere. An ice pick to the battery will render any alarm useless.
Shop for the extra features that YOU want... two-way transmitter, remote window control, remote start, door unlocks, temperature sensor, etc. The actual _alarm_ portion is generally worthless when it comes down to it.

good post,
I'm right there with you, the alarm system is for convience for my wife and me. The old alarm could only be turned off by the remote with sucked for me sense she had the remote.
I like the door and window controls for she leaves them open all the time and the remote start would be sweet come this winter. I'm looking into the temp. controls but not to crazy about it starting all the time. I wish the climate control fan would just come on with fresh outside air. Two way and GPS locator are more than I need for the runner is not loaded with extras. I need to remotes or a way to disarm the alarm with just my key or something.
I have been on DEI site since searching Yota. this morning. The search feature is priceless. But prices seem $$$ on DEI site.
Thanks for all the good advise and the money saving advise!
