Factory Alarm/Keyless Entry on a '94

I posted this in the 86-95 Forum, but figured maybe someone who knows more about alarms would see it here:
I'm puzzled as to whether or not my truck came with the factory alarm/keyless entry. I didn't get a remote, and when I looked under the seat (where online resources said it should be) I didn't see the alarm module. There's a small black box under the dash by the drivers left foot. I tried to get a good look at it, but I couldn't see any "button" on there that I would press to program a remote (as the online directions dictated). The truck had alarm and Toyo Guard stickers plastered all over the windows when I got it. Here's some pics of what I've got. Also, what's this switch for?

That switch will kill power to the ignition system..... Dunno about the black box tho... Mine was under the seat in my rig, and has been flooded so many times, it no longer works...

So if I flip that switch then I won't be able to start the truck? What's the point of that?

Well I flipped the switch and the ignition still worked, so either it's disconnected or it does something else.

its hard to see what you are talking about in the pictures, but you may more than likely have an aftermarket remote start installed. the toggle switch would be for you to disable it when the engine is getting worked on so it would not accidentally start, or so that you or your mechanic didnt accidentally start it while someone is in the engine bay. the black box should have some sort of name/model number on it. the factory alarm is basically a t-harness that is for the most part a "plug and play" alarm. you would be able to see the alarm plugs in areas like the ignition harness or the blue harness in the drivers side kick panel that controls the door locks. you would also see some wires going from taht harness towards teh center console as thats where the factory alarm light/glass break sensor is.

tardman91- if you were to pull(very easily and gently) the wires tied to the toggle switch and the led- should go to a little black box, more wires leading to doors/ignition relay/etc... maybe take the dash cover(s) loose and snap a coupla pics- i maybe can ID the type of system in your 94. my 92 had a similar system installed in it. turns out it was an aftermarket system installed at the dealership.
the bypass sw on the bottom of the dash is just that- you must hit this switch, after turning key, to start vehicle if alarm is activated and remote is not handy. it is also used in conjunction with the led to 'program/check alarm settings'.
you can't always just get a new remote... MAYBE, but you still need to get the #'s off of that black box.
being the third owner of my 92, i had no remotes, and was either going to rip it out, or install all new. much to my surprise- it was an 'audiovox' system... (i know-junk) still manufactured under a different name- dangit, forgot the mfr. now i gotta go take pics of mine- i'll post soon.
NEway...went to local stereo/alarm shop, bought a new kit for like 50 bux, came home, verified and corrected wiring(mine was pretty much ok AND same pinout) plugged in new box, set up the remotes(very simple process). done. another benefit i have is- i tied a relay out circuit (option on the alarm/remote-hitting 2 buttons simultaneously)which operates ch4- which rolls my rear window down. still gotta use key sw to roll it up though.
if you want- i can show you how to use that relay- out for what ever you want to turn on- say remote start option without having to buy a more expensive or ADDITIONAL box.
apparently- my cheap junk works fine. old model, but still being produced should say alot.

Thanks for the reply. You're right about the switch. When I had my timing belt replaced the battery was disconnected for the first time since I've owned it and when it was put back in the alarm went off. The mechanic said he had to flip the switch to start the car and turn the alarm off, or something along those lines. If I have some time I'll play with it a little more this week.
