Sounds like you dumped about 12 quarts of ATF out all over the street. How long did you run the engine with no ATF in the tranny?

Your torque converter (which runs completely on ATF fluid) can't transfer power to the AT without fluid.

I actually completely forgot about that fact before my previous post. All you have to hope for is that the fluid for the TQ ran out before your actuall transmission got too dry to overheat.

If it overheated, it's probably in trouble (big metal shavings in filter). If the TQ just ran out of liquid (which wouldn't let me transmission spin) then you might be lucky. Fix the trans cooler, new liquid and you are ready to go.

I'd say drop the pan and change the filter as well.

Wow, that's a lot of driving, must have been a little slow coming out to make it that far. The tranny may be toast, I guess I'd plug the leak and fill it up with ATF and see what happens.

I feel your pain. My girlfriend rolled over my 4runner and I just bought a new roof cut off from a junkyard from the East Coast. Winter is coming and I have to resort to driving my other truck my 95 Trooper. The tropper eats oil and drips more oil then a McD's fry. You could fix it as long as the frame is not crazy twisted. About you not moving in any gears, like what someone suggested all your fluid probably leak out from the radiator being crack. Best of luck guy.

I filed a report with the school and they are making me pay for the light post i hit because the light on the top fell onto my hood. I was trying to drive it home from school and i made half way before i had to put some coolent. but then i tried putting it in drive and it would not do anything...i mean it just reved and did not move, then i tried putting it in reverse same thing. so now it is standing on some rest area cause i could not drive it home.
What do you guys think i should do?..i dont really want to fix it because it will cost so much. I wanted to claim it as totaled and get money for it.
Another thing is the school is making me pay for the light but i think i am going to make it so my insurence pays for it. and doesent the school have to clean the snow because we had a lot of snow and they were not removing the snow for a week and it was really icy.
Thanks a lot but im afraid my car will not make it.
how is that not the schools fault. they are suppost to de-ice and plow the parking lot. id be ˟˟˟˟˟˟ pissed oh man i would go nuts

I think it all comes back to driving with due caution for the weather ... given that it was in a school zone, I think he's lucky it was only a post.

you can lose control at any speed. 2wd or 4wd ice is ice, they still shouldnt have ice on the parking lot

For the record a DEATH related auto accident is the worst thing ever. This kinda stuff happens all the time. It's called an accident.

You are pretty lucky you didnt fry the trans, and you better hope the damnage will not surface down the road to soon.

You pay $130 for liability because you are a young male and prone to sliding into other peoples property. Get used to it, they will rip you off untill you are 25. Comprehinsive isn't worth it either, once you make a real claim they will raise your rate. Plus there is the whole deductible thing.
