Honestly, I hardly every find myself defending against the big trucks. Most of the time, when we talk, they appreciate my little rig as do I appreciate theirs. Most of them are humble enough to admit that they remember when they were driving lowered 'yotas around in high school and know how much crap those things could take... and dish out.
The only ones that present the slightest hint of 'elite' are those that had the F350 Power Stroke when they were in high school. And then I remind them of the rear main oil seal and the cam degree sensor and how it would cost as much to replace their engine as it would to rebuild my entire truck from the ground up, and they shut up. They may still sneer at me from a distance though... I call that 'yota envy.

All the time, mostly it's just friends giving me a hard time at how small it is compared to the American trucks, but in the long run they know how much longer it'll last, and how much more it'll take then theirs. When they start running their mouth about their truck, I ask if they want to go mudding, they say "no, because something will break and it's my only car", so it's game over.

Had mine the last 18 years and 193k miles....that in itself is enough to defend it. I do have people say I should get something new but there are several reasons why I wouldn't.....sentimental value, reliability ,versatility to name a few. I also would have a huge problem having a load of stone dumped in the back of a new $28 thousand pickup......I'd rather not.
So to defend against bigger trucks really isn't even a valid argument to me if someone with a full-size truck wanted to argue. I've said it before....you want horsepower? Buy a Mustang. You want reliability and sure-footed traction in all conditions, you get a Toyota.

i mostly get teased at for my car looking like crap... because the hood and driver's side fender are flat black, as opposed to red exterior of the rest of the car.
My most common reply is simply, you get your truck to look like that after you crashed it and had to weld a front end on by yourself...

I have caught lip from a few full size owners. I have a trail, 4wheeler trail I take them down. It's 5 miles long, 3 creek crossings, several sharp turns, and some mud. I have yet to see a full size make it. Best part is seeing them back out the full first mile when they come to the first turn. My group calls it the mile of shame!

that's such a materialistic mentality. What's wrong with "if it works, it doesnt need replacing?"
If you replace it, you'll get a $28k mall crawler. I see them all over colorado. Big lifted chevy trucks with huge tires and fender flares, winches and towing equipment, but not a scratch on the paint or a dent in the side to ever prove it's been off the pavement.

Why do so many people defend Toyota? like they defend Toyota in everything. but never defend ford, gm or chrysler. I mean some people defend Ford, Gm or Chrysler like myself or others but it's only on a small scale, rather when people defend Toyota in a big scale or other japanese car companies. I just want to know why people still defend them. And please don't give me crap about American cars that still suck. were' not in the 70s or 80s that happed way back then. this is now. =)
I had an 84 Chrysler Laser, 2.2 Turbo... and it had 96,000 miles on it when I traded it in. When I traded it in, the 'dealer' argued with me that the turbo's only lasted about 60,000 miles and had to be replaced because the center bearings coked up and the turbo would seize and blow smoke, so mine had to have been replaced. My mother owned the car from the showroom and gave it to me, as well as all of the receipts. Not one of them dealt with the turbo at all and the car passed emissions, didn't blow smoke on start-up or otherwise. I also had a receipt for having the transmission rebuilt too... seems the turbo put more stress on the differential carrier bearings and they wear out rather quickly....
but now that I've told you that, I'll tell you this:
I won't speak poorly about any engine I have owned and operated. I may quote the consensus on other engines but will never speak poorly if I don't have first hand knowledge.
Having said that- 2.2L Chryslers are actually very decent, if not even better than that... provided they are maintained properly. VW engines from Type I-II-III-IV are all excellent engines, when maintained. 2xR series 'yota engines- likewise: take care and they will live. GM small-blocks / 305 / 350 engines and the like- every one seams to develop leaking valve seals regardless of what you do.
So what were you saying?
