Question when are the diesels coming?

I want a new truck and it's gotta be a diesel. When are they coming?

here's what I need:
fj cruiser, removable hard top, white on white, and a diesel engine.

either one of these will do.
The 3.0 litre D-4D 170 engine smoothly delivers an outstanding 343 Nm of torque over a wide power band of 1400-3400 rpm, ensuring responsive and refined acceleration in all gears whatever the cargo.

For the 2.5 litre D-4D 120 common-rail turbo diesel engine torque is an outstanding 325 Nm at 2000 rpm, making short work of even the heaviest loads. It can handle a braked trailer, for example with a weight of 2250 kg without the slightest strain.

the havent offered the fj for sale in europe, but if they do then the d-4d 3.0 derv is a superb engine and should expand the range a treat.

If they made an fj exactly what you said i would trade in my tacoma right now for it. Diesel is now cheaper than gas.

Don't hold your breath. I highly doubt that Toyota will ever offer a diesel here in the states. Their hybrids are doing too well.

the diesels are coming when american diesel starts being higher quality and when domestic diesel truck sales skyrocket...then they might see it worthwhile to introduce them here.

So what about a diesel swap on a tacoma? Yea you have to change the hole fuel delivery system but I wonder what it would cost?

ecu wiring, wiring loom, fuel system, engine mounts..... do able but time consuming. i wonder if the d-4d is suitable for the high sulpher diesel you have over there. sort the fuelling out and away you go....

the 1kz-te engine in the older 4 runners (like mine) Will run on any old stuff. i run mine now on vegetable oil and diesel mix to save money, smells like your making french fries but runs great!! bear in mind we pay 9 dollars a gallon over here for fuel.

We don't have high-sulfur diesel anymore. Yeah, you can still get it, but the law changed in Jan 2007. All new vehicles sold must run on low-sulfur, 15 PPM or less now.

It took us a while, but we're getting there. I WISH we had a diesel available to us.

I am there with the Diesel also--what i would really like more than anything in the whole wide world would be a diesel in a third gen frame/body. I think 3rd gens are great becuase they are narrow and light and easy to park!!

either that or just stop making everything so bog--big is not always better and space is getting tight. Just my wild school girl fantasy.

I agree. I like the size of the 3rd Gen. Also like the size of the 1st Gen Tacoma, and all the previous Hilux's. Making them bigger, isn't always better.

Looks like the first diesel Toyota will be the Tundra. Rumors are that Toyota is looking at putting a caterpillar diesel in the new Tundra in the future.

First, I love diesels, but don't be fooled into thinking that it suddenly makes your Toyota into an economy car.

Consider this. If you buy a Ford truck expect too pay a $6,895 option cost for the diesel motor. Chevy charges $7,200 more for the diesel engine. Who knows what Toyota would charge.

Do the math, it would take years to simply break even based on a 15% savings in MPG over a gas engine.

Hilux Pricing from the UK (diesel)
?12,187 to ?18,887

RAV4 Pricing from the UK
?19,095 to ?27,045

Toyota US would be crazy if they doubled the price.

I just sold my VW Golf TDI (44+mpg) to buy an '03 Tacoma Xtracab TRD. I'd get over 700 miles on a 16 gallon tank. I don't pay for natural gas to heat my home, because the Taco will haul firewood for me. I'll save >$200 per month for 5 months a year. I may just break even. Plus the Tacoma will replace my '95 Limited 4Runner along with the Golf, so my insurace should be less.

A 25-28 mpg HiLux diesel is about 30-45% improvement over the 19 mpg of the 3.4l 5-speed. I'd love that in a package the size and capability of my 4th generation Tacoma.

There was someone in Guatemala that was here in Belize for a few days visiting, anyway he bought an 2007 FJ Cruiser TRD Edition, and made it for the off road, and a he bought a 2007 Land Cruiser NEW V8 diesel from austraillia and did an engine swap. that FJ Cruiser he is selling for over $100, 000 us! i think is using it in the mountains. But Toyota is about to realase a TRD Supercharger for the Toyota Diesels, so keep an eye on the rest of the world Toyota dealers, cause you never know.
