Whats the scariest thing...

Whats the scariest thing youve done in your yota?

Ive had a few, all in my old truck

One time i almost drifted into a rivine on a first date.. another was almost rolling down a 100 yard long steep hill on a switchback but the scariest was probly when i was on a crazy freeway interchange in utah. i didnt expect this really sharp corner and i was trying to read the signs and ended up loosing the rear end and doing this crazy drift going about 70 on a one lane loop. i ended pulling out of it but my god it was scary i would have been dead if i spun out.

So lets hear your stories

I haven't done anything too scary in my 4runner, but there was one time in my buddy's 86 4runner. Going 50mph down a dirt road at 1:30AM he lost control and rolled it. I was sitting in the back in a racing seat with no seat belt. I remember on the first roll the fiberglass top ripped off, but that's right when I hit my head and blacked out. Although I had a small seizure, bruised rib cage, bruised tailbones, a concussion and cuts all over my body I felt luckily to be alive. My other friend who was also in the back seat fractured her hip in 3 places! Moral of the story, ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS! I always do, but he didn't have seat belts in the back for the racing seats and it was supposed to be a short drive...

AUG. 2008 CAMP NL, first trip out with my 85 4 runner, a test drive you could call it. The air tube from the filter box to the throttle body was old and started to tear in 3 places. I couldnt get it to run correctly and was over heating due to electrical issues. GF and myself grabbed a passenger seat in other vehicles and left the truck off the trail until we were on our way out.
Got the truck running, but couldnt find a sweet spot to hold the RPM. On the last obsticle on the way off the trail, we managed to do a 6 grand launch with a very rough landing...

Letting my brother drive my 4runner offroad...
its never a good idea to let someone else drive your truck offroad
i didn't think that i could make it through these trees and he did, so before i could stop him he jumped in and tried it. i was right and he broke the taillights and put a decent size dent in the back side of it

Here's the Pict:

And the moral of this story is never let ANYONE drive your truck off road, ever

Stopped my truck on the trail to examine the trail ahead, as it's prone to wash outs. Got back up to my truck and stopped at the driver's door to talk to my buddy following me. Got back in and started fwd. Well, there was a wash out right in front of my truck that I drove into. I forgot to about it while we were talking and it was too close to see once I got back into my truck. It was about waist deep and cut across the trail at a 35/40 degree angle. I really thought we were going over. My buddy said his first thought was "how the F are we even going to pull that out". I cut the wheel hard left, after I explained to my wife to not move one inch, and somehow drove right out. I already was moking plans for a removable top, flat bead and fiberglass fenders because I just knew we were done.

I spun my old 82 around 180 deg doing 35 miles per hour. I hit some black ice turning onto another road on a slight turning ramp at a 4 way intersection. I was facing on coming traffic. That was kinda scary.Basically did some drifting with my truck all at once.
The nice part I didn't roll but spinning around fast makes u think about it. I guess I built it with a wide wheel base for a reason.

Oh and I almost forgot back in 1995 I came over a hill with the sun in my eyes I was driving a 92 2wd toyota pickup. I hit a semi-trailer at 85 mph. Wasn't a pretty sight. I came out no injuries my truck was mangled.

That will be the first of many tail lights...if you find them in the junkyard, buy an extra set

My scariest wheeling experience was having my old '84 X-Tra Cab break through the ice when driving up the frozen Eklutna River outside of Anchorage, Alaska in December of '93. -25* out...

There were 4 of us, only winch in the group would free spool out but not wind up...Took about 100 Feet of straps to get me out..Wish they had digital cameras back then.

Rolling my 4Runner on a gravel road after installing a locker.

Letting my friend drive my truck in 2wd over some train tracks, THEN we saw a train coming. TOld him to just to floor it and dump the clutch.

Watching a speeding dump truck loose control behind me on wet roads and watching the headlights get wider and wider apart in my rearview mirror, then the sound of the impact. That was in my VW van, which obviously is no more.

In my first truck, a little 2wd long bed Toyota with bald mud tires in the rain. First time ever driving it, I nearly spun in on an on ramp on the highway. With my mom in the passenger's seat.

Its a wonder cars don't take more lives.

  • "we're not really stuck"
  • "that's alright, you're the only person I'd ever want to be stuck in the snow with, if we were actually stuck"
  • "there are only friendly bears in this campground"
