Actually in 99' the option was for the HD spring package, but after all the rollover BS they dropped the height on the 00'.

The 5 speed highlanders have 4.10 gears..........

I had an '85 locked f&r, a '99, and now have a '90. Every rig is different in every situation. Doesn't the 4th gen have traction control or something? That would have to take it, unless the trail's too narrow...

I have 4.88 gears in my 2nd generation i dont now if they are stock or not, it crawls at a nice speed. But i still would take the 3rd generation with the e locker!

Not that this makes Highlanders more capable but aren't the seats specific to the Highlander or were they in all SR5s?

I like the Highlander package due to it's having the no running boards option and you get the Limited's wheels standard plus the scoop is a nice factory "rice" item that is a coveted mod on non-scooped Runners.

Not all 99-00 models sit 1" higher. My 2000 looks lower than a '99. What do you think?

I vote 3rd gen with an e-locker for best out-of-the-box offroad performance. A stock '85 does not have impressive suspension flex.

the 96 thru 98 production runners all had the same springs. All 99's and the first part of the 00 production runners got the 1" taller springs. the later 00 production runners got the shorter springs along w/ all runners after that.

[QUOTE=BruceTS]Just a reminder for those who can't remember exactly what a "Stock" 1985 looks like

Now here's a stock 1999 highlander

Bruce.... Did you end up buying this truck? Or did you just lift the pics off the dude's for sale post? Isn't this the truck that the dude was asking $13,000 or thereabouts for ?

my 00 2wd sr5 had the 265/70/16 but i think that was a factory upgrade option, because i know a girl at my school has a 00 2wd sr5 w/ the smaller 225's i believe
