What do we think of these tires?

I was at the NOPI Nationals this weekend, and saw several big giant Ford's running Kuhmo Road Venture MTs. (specifically the KL71, not the 834) They look like a pretty stout tire...
I searched for and found one mention of them on here, in a thread about where to buy cheap tires. Thought I would ask and see if anyone actually runs them...any experiences good or bad that you have had with them...
Heres a linky...
http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/Ptn...tion=PtnDetail - Basic Info on the tires.
http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/Ptn...D=2&PtnID=KL71 -Sizes and Specs
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....enture+MT+KL71 - here they are at tirerack. $129.00 a peice...
VS.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....rrain+T%2FA+KM - BFG's for $155.00 - $162.00 a tire....

What do we think guys?

The new tread design on those does look pretty cool, much better than the old. As far as wear or use I can't say I know much about them (I'm sure they just changed the tread pattern and left the casing more or less the same).

Yep, I think they were going for the knockoff angle with the originals.
Alot of the new tires are going pretty funky with the tread designs to attract buyers.

Check out these Nitto Dune Grapplers (talk about wild treads):

the kumhos are two diff tires

ones for regular off roading.. i think the other tire is for 15 inch rims for 31 and 33s and the rest are 18 and above wheels.. one even had 24 inch wheels? what the heck?

They are definately aimed at different markets (offroad vs street truck).
You're right, with tires that low profile the casing probably is different.

even aimed at street trucks, they do offer it in a 33x12.5 for 15" wheels, so are we thinking this is a no good tire, since it is aimed at the 18"-24" wheel? Or do you trhink it is still an okay tire?
My truck is MOSTLY a mall crawler, with occasional light offroad stuff.

Given your mostly mall crawler use they'd probably do fine, but I haven't used them so I would hesitate to give any buy recommendations for them (no idea on wear or road noise). I do know quite a few members run the Nitto Terra Grapplers though.

Over the BFG MT's? For only a difference of roughly $20 a tire? Or for the price is it worth just going with the BFG's (which I had my heart set on to begin with...)

I'd stick with the BFG's unless you can get a few people to comment that have run them. You could try looking for more tire reviews online as well. Otherwise it sounds like a pretty expensive gamble. Kumho has improved their quality dramatically lately, but their prices have crept up as well.

with only $20 a tire under the BFG MT's, do you think I should just stick with the BFG's?

I ran a set for about 6 months this year....got them for cost price from the local 4x4 shop and just had to report back on there performance. Probably the best handling mud tyre on both dry and wet bitumen that I've driven on (other tyres I've had are BFG Muds, Radial Claws, and now MTZ's). They KL71's were quiet to begin with, but ended up on par road noise wise with most of your quality mud terrain tyres. Offroad they performed well, but only tried them out a couple of times. Mine were wearing very quickly and I staked one somehow. So I ended up ditching them when i went to 17" rims and got some Mickey Thomson MTZ's (also a great tyre).

I would definitely recommend them....but they will wear quick!

Couple pics of them fitted to my 4runner (33x12.5 on 15x10's)
