To all of you southern albertans out there...with may long around the corner (tomorrow) lol, waiperous and mcleans??? can you just pick any old spot and camp out there??? or do you need to find a "camp ground"??? also, how would my stock 96 runner do out there??? thanks guys

 

Howdy.....I believe Waiparous is still open for camping near approved roads. The new Ghost-Waiparous Access Management Plan came into effect a couple of years ago and while it has drastically reduced the trails available for 4x4 use, random camping is still allowed. Just make sure that your on or near an approved trail otherwise the fines are pretty steep (assuming you want to camp near your truck - which I highly recommend given the annual incidents of torched vehicles every May-long.).

Your Toyota should be able to handle the 4x4 trails (the ones that are left that is) without any problems. Lord knows there will be literally thousands of people there to lend a hand if you get into any problems.

Note that between the grad parties, hardcore party animals, firebugs, Conservation officers, RCMP, volunteers manning information posts, and the media covering this years festivities, you may have a tough time finding any privacy.

Good luck and stay safe (McLean's isn't really any better); be sure to report on your experience - I'm curious whether the increased fines and police presence will keep the area under control this year.

thanks homer....i honestly didn't think that there was anyone from my area on this site...not sure if i will go there, but it would be a good option...we went there for "one" of my many grad parties (hardly remember it tho)...anyone else in the area??? didn't really find a 4roc club
