I am about to change out my diffs so it seems like the best time to finally do the front diff breather extension.

For the rear I just shoved some clear ( I wanted to see if gear oil was getting pushed up and getting stuck) vinyl tubing ( 5/16"). I wasnt worried about heat because its so open. On the front the tube is going to be RIGHT against the oil pan, think this stuff will melt?


So Can I use the tubing or should I just forget it and buy some fuel hose instead.

p.s these fittings are impossible to find around here! I got some 1/8th thread brass fittings, they are a micron bigger then the stock breather!

 

I would suggest that you go with the fuel line. The vinyl tubing is /was used on some of the machines I work on at Intel, it seems to get brittle after being exposed to some temp ranges (150-225*F) As far as the tubing resting against the oil pan, you might be able to use a spring or zip tie to keep it a reasonable distance away...

 

i used a yellow air compress hose, but in half one for the front and rear. i works good.

and if you dont like the fittings you have try some nissan ones they have a nice long stem on them to attach a hose.

if you do choose to wrap the line by the oil pan I would think that a spring would still transfer alot of heat, maybe some heat wrap like for headers or something. I'd watch that clear tubing just in case. there are a few clear tubes that used to run oil to my jetski that were pretty close to the engine and they did alright, but the did get brittle after a while. I run mixed fuel so they are gone now
kind of a neat idea though!

 

Well, since the oil pan is so friggin close to the breather the tubing is going to be mighty close. Since I would rather not find out the hard way, im just going to break down and buy some fuel line instead. It wouldve been nice to use this clear stuff though.
