VIN Plate Replacement

VIN Plate Replacement
I was wondering if anyone has had to replace their VIN plate before and how to go about doing it.
I recently purchased a recovered stolen 80 series at auction and the VIN plate on the dash had been removed. It is my understanding that this is required by law.
Any info would be great
Thanks,
-Justin

I wouldnt worry, the same VIN is on the door. I have 2 different vins b/c my truck has another engine in it and all I did was show them the door and the guy was happy.
Bring documentation you bought it from an auction just incase.

Or grind it off, I know of tons of people that have done cab swaps, frame swaps, etc.. Dont see the big deal of buying the tags + registration, pulling the old ones off and swapping them, dont see how that could be illegal either, Even if it is how will they find out? you have the legit regi and legit tags on the vehicle, it would be just like buying the donor truck and driving it.

When you go to the VIN check station, they compare all vins to each other. they visually check all VIN numbers. Underhood, frame, etc. I just had this done on an 87, and they inspected the hell out of it.
its very illegal becuase you dont have the original tags and title for that VIN number, and you are combining two trucks into one, and only using the one vin.
The other main reason its so illegal, is because I could come steal your truck, pull the parts off it, and call it a "donor" truck, then put all the parts on my truck and drive it around. Whats stopping anyone from just doing that if you did it your way?
Long story short, dont do it. Its illegal, and the state patrol WILL find it, and confiscate the truck from you. Do what was originally suggested, and contact the local DMV. Ask them what you should do. Do not swap them from another truck, you are asking for trouble.

Yeah I dont live in the states, guess its not as big of an issue here. So what happens when you get a Bud built frame? or custom build a frame that has no numbers? What would be stopping me from grinding off the old number and using my stamp set to stamp the new VIN number on the frame?
Alright il stop now
Guess I shouldnt be giving people idea's
Dont take my advice anyone, Apparently it can get you in trouble
