Valve Body Check Ball Missing?!?!

Valve Body Check Ball Missing?!?!
Did the DIY valve body mod on my 97 T100, no check ball to be found, its an A340f, my valve body seems to be different than others with same transmission, have the pressure regulator...etc.
any chance some valve bodies didnt have a check ball, and what is it's function, it doesnt seem to affect the transmission at all, shift nice and firm, doesnt get hot...
