Update on wrecked 'cherry' 2nd gen..

Insurance company totalled it today.

Estimated cost of repair $4850
Approximate salvage cost $ 1000

Its gonna get hauled off next week. I am just arguing the value.

Assesor agreed it is well above average condition and only hits to value were
manual tranny and mileage.

Average vehicle that age has 147k vs my 174k.

I can strip OME stuff if I put something back, AR23's etc etc ut strangely enough, it must have a radio of some description.

Off to the salvage yard.

Apparently as it is 4WD, the $1000 is really what they claim they will get for the complete drivetrain and then anything else is gravy...

So they're saying they just want the drivetrain? Let them have that and keep the rest! LOL

Seriously - strip the hell out of it. Even the glass.

Then go shopping for new insurance.

Well,

As odd as it seems, I bought 4 'new' shocks for it today for $70 (high quality stuff ) and some used 31 x 10.50s mounted on the original SR5 alloys for $25 ea.

So, I get to keep the OME f+r shocks and rear springs plus my sweet AR23 rims and barely used Dueller AT.

Dude - I would seriously doubt that they're even going to look at it - just send a rollback, winch it up on there and off it goes. Strip it to the bare bones - anything you think you can reuse or sell. For god's sake don't do them any favors, they're doing their best to screw you.

When I totalled my '89 in 2001, the insurance (USAA - great company) actually encouraged me to get what I wanted out of the truck - all they wanted was the engine. It reduced the allowable claim against the comprehensive, as obviously you can't file for the loss of what you kept. They immediately wrote a check for $5000 for the "truck" and then we negotiated a comprehensive claim for the mods (ended up being about $18k in all - lots of stereo equipment)

I agree with TC.

When my 92 burnt, I got more than $5000, I had 225,000 miles a stick shift and it was in terrible condition compared to yours.

I did not strip it to the bone, but I took a lot, never herd a word.
