Is a Trekker a 4runner?
#1
I'm new and this may be a dumb post but I always see people posting that they have a 1st gen. 4runner which is in the 2nd gen. era 1984-1989 so technically wouldn't the Trekker really be a 1st gen. 4runner? Since it was literally in the 1st gen 79-83? This question has always stumped me and kinda pissed me off in a way so I was just curious to see what you guys would say.
***Also on a side note I just joined the site and will be buying a toyota this weekend just pulled 2,500$ out since I sold my 88' F250 and I'm looking for a project/daily driver maybe I'll do a build. Have had a few toyotas in the past and worked on a lot of them before, since I have a Toyota family and my father is a retired mechanic. And this is also a great website visited quite a few times while working on my cousins 96' ext. cab v6 3vze when we came to some issues and I'm super excited to become part of the group. Thanks y'all.

I was just curious because they seem somewhat a like, although here in Oregon you don't see many Trekkers. Thanks for the clarification dropzone.
***Hahah I just realized you live in Oregon, nice build on the Trekker it's super clean. Here on the coast I'm by Newport I've only seen maybe 4-5 Trekkers and they have all been beat to heck.

They were also not built by Toyota. They were a collaboration with Winnebago. The 4Runner was obviously based on the same idea as the Trekker, but I would say they're a distinctly different beast.
With that said, it does bug me when people refer to the "gen" of their 4Runners, As they're so closely related to the trucks but the number is off. It'd be so much easier if we could call Trekkers 1st gens, and the late '80s ones 2nd gens....then it would match the trucks.
