Recently I took my 2004 V6 Sport 4WD 4Runner in for servicing. I don't know what happened, but after I got it home, I discovered it was leaking. I took it to a local mechanic friend who checked it out and said that the transmission fluid is leaking because it was overfilled. He didn't drain any of it, but instead told me to go back to the dealer and have them do it. Is this going to cause any harm to the vehicle or just my driveway and various parking lots? I have checked underneath myself and noticed that the pan has fluid in it, but I don't see it dripping from the transmission. The truck has 52,000 miles on it.

 

First thing to do is check your trans dipstick to see if its really over filled.

I've heard of overfilled trans shooting fluid out the dipstick tube. Also heard of the fluid becoming foamy and making the trans slip.

 

Overfilling your trans fluid can cause slipping in the tranny.

 

I took the vehicle into the dealer to check it out. They said the o-ring on the transmission dipstick was cracked. After paying out 50 bucks to replace it, the next day I find more transmission fluid on my garage floor and the same dripping problem. It looks like the holder for the dipstick is wet about halfway down. Any suggestions on the problem?

Make the b*stards fix it. Be anal about it. TAke it to another dealer if you need to.

i didnt think the 4th gens had a tranny dip srick. if it is the new motors like the fj, i couldnt find one when i was looking for it at the stealer.
