Tranny Gear Oil Change - Extra Part

I've got an '87 Pickup with a 22R with a 5 spd. Motivated by a recent thread on this board, I decided to change all my gear oils and refill with synthetics. All was going well until I pulled the tranny drain plug and this little gem fell out. I've placed it next to the drain plug for size reference.

What is it? Is it a bad thing that it's not in the tranny anymore?

Does the tranny make noise? I'm not sure what that is, but I can't imagine it's a good thing that it fell out. Maybe you're lucky and it's something simple..

I would not think that parts falling out of a drain plug would be a good thing...Just me not that I know much.

Who knows how long that was in there floating around if it shifts ok and you are not having an issue I guess you can let it go. But really consider getting in that thing soon or hit the bone yard and grab another.
Could be a spacer for one of the forks??? Maybe?

Is it hollow? I just rebuilt my w56 and the only thing that looks like that is the rollers in a few of the bearings but they are solid

Yeah, it is hollow. And actually two fell out, not just one. The second I found while dumping the drain pan and it's a bit squished.

Thanks for those links, CyMoN. I don't see anything in there that resembles these pieces. They look like some sort of collar bushing or something. The tranny shifts fine and doesn't make any noise, so I'm not too worried about it, but it's still a little bit concerning when parts are falling out.

Maybe my tranny just came with extra parts?

Well I guess let it go but I think you should start looking for another or get ready for a rebuild real quick like.
