toyota lying?
so listen to this and tell me what you think...
-my trucks been smoking white out the tailpipe for a good month or 2 (i used the fuel injector cleaner didn't work to good)
-the temp. gauge never worked on my truck then 2 days ago the gauge shot all the way up to the "red zone"....the inside of the truck actually started to get pretty damn hot too(mind you it was not hot out)
-the compression seems low when i try to start it sometimes and almost dies
-yesterday the truck was driven for about 60 min. then parked for about 20..... then when i tried to start it, compression seemed too low and it wouldn't start... after trying to start it about ten times i gave it some gas and revved it high to keep it running... then drove it home.
so what do you think ...... HEAD GASKET???
thats what i thought
i took it to Toyota yeseterday and they called me today and told me they took the motor apart and found NOTHING wrong with it??? the only thing they say I need is a new water pump...........
what the hell?..............nothing wrong with the motor?... tell me what you think...THANK YOU

can't help you with your smoking issue but saw in your signature that you were looking for a manual.
Here is a link to an online Toyota Factory Service manual, the one your '86 is the first one:

TORE THE ENGINE APART? What did they tair apart, and did they give it back to you running? When you say TORE APART, I would like more details.

yeah Id stay after the dealership, they are full of crap, I can garuntee unless you paid them a BOATLOAD of money they didn't do a tear down and reassembly of the motor. Ask them for exactly what they did to check for problems with your truck.

Tell them your not taking the truck back, and not paying a single cent until they tell you what work was performed for the diagnostic check, and what the results were of eash test they did.
Sound like they let your truck sit, and decided oh, we forgot to work on it...quick clal him and tell he needs a waterpump....

No. Any engine has potential to blow a headgasket if overheated or for another reason. The 3vze was prone to blowing them more often due to different expansion rates between the aluminum head and cast iron block.
